Sound and Contrast

Post  Sebastien on Sun May 29, 2016 7:09 am

Hello. I have some problems with the last version.

I couldnt make the sound work. I try many codecs. I put the volume channel to 255. I checked windows audio settings and couldnt make it work.

I also have a problem with the contrast.
When I boost the contrast in a video the dimmer is not working well. For exemple if you boost the contrast to maximum. The dimmer is working from 98% to 100% and before its just black.

Hi Sebastien,

Content wise, Is this only on you bottom layer? or on all?

as with the video, we would recommend encoding audio within an AiM clip ( you can use any frequency - id recommend 44.1khz 16bit stereo though)

it is potentially possible to play just audio clips in Ai ( such as wav ) but its not recommended due to unreliable performance. this is something for us to look at in the future.

I will have to check the contrast thing and get back to you.

Yes it's like that for all layers.

My sound was in a AIM video. 44.1khz 16bit. I try with codecs and uncompressed. Nothing change. No sound.

it might be worth checking the control in the layer personality ( 88/89 depending if you start from 0 or 1 )

its also worth checking the windows volume controls.

I cheked windows volume and windows output routing.
The volume was at 255 as I said. I didnt try to put all layer volume to 255. Maybe it's a bug between layers.

So. Today Im working on a new show. I needed to use video with sound inside and as I said before. It's not working...
Sound in uncompressed inside a AIM video.
DMX Ch89 @ Full

The media server configuration is nothing special. Base new show with 4 layers.

ive double checked on several systems - audio definitely plays back from AiM files in the current release version of AI.

if you play the file on the same machine but outside of Ai ( for instance, quicktime ) - can you hear it?

are you controlling this from a console? if so, which version and is it with the latest personality library?

if those don't work, you will need to send the files over for us to look at - I would advise today or tomorrow if possible as we are onsite for Glastonbury from sunday and I cannot guarantee the internet will be good enough for us to download files there.

many thanks.

I will try to send you some sample tomorrow.
And yes the sound is working when I use Quicktime Player.

I use the last Fixture from Program Files/Avolites/Ai/distrib/system/MA Fixture/
On a Grand MA 2 of course. And on this library the channel 89 for the sound control is missing so I modify the fixture to have the sound volume from the desk.

Ok so after checking on my computer (Not on AI EX8). I think the problem was the sample rate or the bit rate.
Can you confirme it must be 16bit - 44.1 khz ?

Second thing. It's not a bug but a question. I can't make media smoother by using the GL finish option when there is sound enbeded in the media. Do you think it's possible to do that in the next release?

with the current release version - it can be any frequency / hz... I'm not sure about the bit rate, I always use 16bit.

glfinish - I will need to speak with the devlopers and see if that would have any effect and wether its possible
