Syphon support for Ai MAC version?

Post  jonahjiang on Fri May 03, 2013 2:35 pm

Hi there,

Can we have Syphon support in the Mac version, this would be a great feature for working with other software.

running multiple softwares on a single machine will introduce instability and reduce system performance. a much better practice would be to use a video input on the machine.

Syphon basically works like CITP, though difference is CITP only supports 144x144 while Syphon gives more feasiblity.

my understanding is that syphon is a program which allows you to stream video between software which is quite different to citp which allows for extended communications, control and thumbnailing between items such as lighting desks and media servers.

Anyway I need it, but it depends on you guys if you do it or not.

We actually need both CITP and Syphon, CITP for multiple outputs to do simulation like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=LHIVRTKkw10
for this purpose,we don't need the strings attached to CITP, that 144x144 is what we need for pre-visualization with LIGHTING.

And Syphon for input, there are many applications can't be done by Ai itself or it may be but we don't have time to wait, so we need to use different tools and integrate.

i would heavily suggest against using syphon - ive seen it crash a few times now on different systems. but if you realy have to us it, use the freeframegl syphon plugin.

it is never wise to try and run more than 1 piece of software on a show critical machine and is far more sensible to use a video input on your system.

Ive attached a patch to use the Syphon input FFGL in Ai.

To use this you first need to install the Syphon FFGL. this must be placed in:

distrib/modules/effects/freeframegl

Then start Ai and drag the patch into the Ai window and trigger it to a layer. If you need to adjust any settings, right click the patch, then choose edit patch, make any changes, then close it and remember to save or the settings will not be applied.
